Appraisals and Automatic Discovery: The Federal Court’s Plan for Processing Ian Claims
Thursday, June 8, 2023
12 – 1 pm
Virtual via Zoom
(link to follow)
Join us over the lunch hour on June 8 for a free virtual CLE with Judges Mizell and Dudek. They will speak on the Fort Myers Division’s new scheduling order tailored to hurricane claim cases. The Florida Bar approved this event for 1 hour of General CLE credit and 1 hour of State and Federal Government and Administrative Practice credit.
It’s no secret Hurricane Ian devastated our Division. And as SWFL recovers from the storm, a deluge of hurricane disputes will follow. To get out ahead of the incoming caseload, the Division’s Judges drafted new scheduling and protective orders for cases involving hurricane claims. The orders are comprehensive and thoughtful based on the Judges’ experience presiding over countless Hurricane Irma cases. This CLE will be jam-packed with pragmatic information to help your practice today.
Even if you aren’t able to make it, be sure to check out the new scheduling and protective orders here and here.

The Fort Myers Division’s 2023 Summer Series
Southwest Florida’s most popular law student summer event is back! And all law students working for Judges or lawyers in SWFL during the summer of 2023 are invited to participate!
The Series is comprised of eight free events. Each is designed to offer students a chance to interact with Judges and practitioners while learning about federal practice.
The first event is on May 23 at 9:30. It is called “Morning at the Federal Courthouse.” Judges Chappell, Mizell, and Dudek will explain the basics of cases in federal court. And attendees will enjoy a free breakfast. Space is limited and RSVPs are required.
If you know any law students working here this summer, be sure to pass along the invitation. For more information about the Series, see the Court’s program: 2023 Summer Series Program.
