Welcome to the
Southwest Florida Federal Court Bar Association
A Message from the President
Recently I sat in Magistrate Judge McCoy’s courtroom and watched as 27 people took the oath of naturalization to become new citizens of the USA. I saw a group of big smiles, fidgeting in the chair, waving of miniature flags, and families taking photographs: energy to become what I already enjoyed – citizenship. Anyone who questions living in America should have been sitting in that room – these people would have fought you for the right to take the oath. Our Federal Court holds these Naturalization Ceremonies several times a year and I urge you to attend on behalf of our SW Florida Federal Bar and be a part of this ceremony.
This fall brings new activities ahead. Ross Guberman’s Point Made: “ How to Write like the Nation’s Top Advocate” will be held Friday, October 5, 2018, from 9:00 AM- 12:00 noon, at The Holiday Inn Airport in Estero. He is a graduate of Yale University and The University of Chicago Law School. Please reserve today (its free if you are a member of our Chapter) and earn 3 CLE’s while learning how to improve your writing skills.
Thursday, November 1, 2018, will see the atrium of the Federal Courthouse hosting our “Twenty years and Counting of Modern Justice” event to honor the Middle District Judges. We expect judges from the Tampa Court to attend. Refreshments and light snacks will be available and our local Judges have promised a tour of the jail if time and circumstances permit. Don’t miss this free event. Our new Board of Directors will be sworn in with Casey Cosentino Dudek, Esq. as President.
2018-2019 will continue some of the programs which have proven popular and new programs which Casey will be announcing at a later time. I want to thank our local judiciary for being the primary force behind our SW Florida Federal Court Bar Association. They are always willing to participate in our events and support our Association. Thank you to the members who attend our functions and give us feedback by their attendance.
